The snow emergency prohibits on-street parking on designated routes beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3. The parking ban will enable Department of Public Works crews and its contractors to effectively clear the town's roadways.

Residents are advised to park their vehicles in their driveways or yards. Or they also may use municipal parking lots, according to the Department of Public Works.

Town Hall, as well as all of the schools in Greenwich, will be closed on Thursday.

The snow emergency will remain in effect until further notice.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning with snow expected to begin falling during the early morning hours of Thursday, continuing into the afternoon. Near blizzard-like conditions also can be expected with winds of at least 35 mph with 3 to 9 inches of snow predicted to fall.

“We have the snow crews with the equipment in place with salt and sand at the ready. We are good to go and to tackle the season’s first major storm,” said Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei.

The town ordinance requires Greenwich property owners to keep all sidewalks along their property clear of snow and ice.

The Town of Greenwich prohibits plow contractors from pushing snow from driveways or parking lots onto streets. This practice is dangerous and impedes the town’s snow-removal efforts.
